Septuor

In Music, a septuor indicates, either a type of formation, or a Musical genre.

Musical formation

A septuor - or septet , in Jazz - is first of all a musical Ensemble composed of seven Musicien S Soliste S, or of seven groups of musicians - i.e., seven Pupitre S.

Musical genre

A septuor is also a Musical genre dedicated to this type of formation. It indicates a seven piece of music then left simultaneous, intended to be interpreted by seven Soliste S, with or without accompaniment.

  • In the Classical music, and more precisely, the Chamber music, the word indicates a Sonate for seven instruments soloists. He is frequently written for a combination of cords and winds.

For example, the “Septuor in major E flat for Violin, viola, Violoncello, Double bass, Clarinet, horn and Bassoon, Opus 20” of Beethoven.
