Keep of Septmonts

Keep of the 14th century (43 meter in height) intact and worth visiting located in the remainders of a castle which was a episcopal residence, them same located in a park giving on the principal place.

The castle is the floret of the inheritance of Septmonts. Built by an architect of the royal teams of Charles V, it is in the style of the princely castles of the 14th century, marrying with elegance military defensive art and that of " the hostel" residential.

The castle was acquired by the commune directed at the time by Mr. Alain Charmaille in 1978 and its restoration continues today.

Opening of the castle the every day, from May 2nd to September 30th, opening the weekend, the remainder of the year.

The keep of Septmonts was represented by the draftsman Jean-Pierre-Léopold Baraquin, work preserved at the museum of Soissons.

Church Saint-Andrew de Septmonts

In this church of the 15th century, of blazing style, the visitor can admire a splendid beam of polychrome glory, carved medallions representing the twelve apostles.

The church is coupled with the old cemetery of which certain tombs, those of the soldiers (deaths for France) and of notable (in particular former mayors of the commune) close to the church are worth a small visit.

Culture

The festival Pic' arts is organized in the court of the keep every year, at the beginning of July.

August 1st, 1835, Victor Hugo wrote with his wife: “With two places of Soissons… in a charming valley… there is admirable a châtelet 14th century… old residence of the bishops of Soissons. ”
