Separatism (political)
The separatism refers explicitly to the Indépendantisme. It can be defines as a movement in which one preaches so that an area (not a federate State (see secession) reaches a Indépendance or a Souveraineté. Separation does not imply necessary the accession to a sovereignty.
A separate area can form a State without any time to obtain the statute of Sovereign state.
Negative connotation
The term “independence” evokes usual a state of emancipation, stamping and is perceived mainly by people like one positive period. On the other hand, the terms “separation” and “separatism” can be completely perceived on the other hand.Indeed, in the politicians where it is question of a new independence of a State, particularly in Quebec, it is easy to note like the freedom fighters will speak about independence and which their opponents will speak about separation.
A separation is not necessarily equivalent to independence or sovereignty. A separation is a process of detachment of an element to a group. This process necessarily does not lead to an independence in oneself, nor even with an autonomy. On the other hand, independence must necessarily pass by a separation or a secession in the case of the federate States.
A separation, contrary to independence, is not an end in itself, these are a process which results in a transitory state.
Taiwan
Taiwan behaves like an independent State, without independence never being officially proclaimed. One can regard it as a separate area of China and also as being an independent State, but not sovereign.
