Sensei
Senseï (せんせい or 先生, sometimes francized in “senseï”) is a term Japanese indicating “that which was there before me, which is guaranteeing knowledge and experiment of a technique or a know-how”, or in more condensed way one Master who gives his teaching to a Kōhai (a pupil). In its usual use, it is used to be addressed has a professor or teacher or with a doctor and to be addressed to a recognized artist.
The current translation of the term is: Main . For example, the scenario writer Kurosawa sensei : “Main Kurosawa”
In the unconscious Western collective, the term sensei often refers to a Gourou or “Master” under his mystical aspect, connotation which it does not have in Japanese. In occident, it is in general used to appoint a teacher of Budo .
Senseï in the budos
In martial arts, the Senseï term is used in connection with a person who obtained a title of teacher. For example, in the Kyudo, Senseï has a title of " Renshi" (instructor) generally at least pressure reducer of the 5th daN, " Kyoshi" (professor) generally at least pressure reducer of the 6th daN, " Hanshi" (Master) generally at least pressure reducer of 7th daN.
