Senior officer

A senior officer is one of the three categories of Officier S (with subaltern and general officer).

The senior officers form a body, just like the general officers. In a Regiment, the senior officers elect a representative of their category near the hierarchy: the president of the senior officers.

The speed of progression in the ranks of senior officers strongly depends on the notation of the hierarchy, generally, the Colonel, and of the row of classification to the Collège interarmées of defense. A Captain or a Commander left in the higher third the classification is likely to arrive at the rank of Colonel and to order a Régiment before reaching the age limit and being placed within the framework of reserve.
