Senegalese Socialist party

The Senegalese Socialist party (PS) is an old political party Senegal board.

History

The PS is founded by Lamine Guèye in 1934, following a scission with SFIO, or as of 1929 according to other sources.

The first congress meets on June 30th 1935, and the second on November 24th of the same year.

In 1936 the PS joined the Popular front. Before the elections the PS creates its own militia in order to ensure the safety at the time of its meetings.

In 1937 a joint list to the SFIO and the PS gains the municipal elections with Saint-Louis. Maître Vidal becomes mayor.

At the time of the congress of the 4 June 5th 1938 the PS decides to amalgamate with the SFIO. Following this decision, a congress of the new federation of the SFIO meets in Thiès June 11th and 12th.

Organization

Guèye was the president of the party. The mayor of Dakar, Armand-Pierre Angrand, was the General secretary. Vidal Master, Charles Graziani and Amadou Assane Ndoye were the vice-presidents.

The periodical of the party was entitled Clartés .
