The Senators d' Ottawa are a frankness from professional Hockey of the National league of hockey evolving/moving with Ottawa in the province of the Ontario. In its current incarnation, the club was founded in 1992 and was during a few years of a poor sporting level. Since 1996, grace partly to Jacques Martin, the former trainer-chief, the club improved. Since 1999 the club is one of best league.

History

The first frankness

Well before the arrival of the Senators in LNH in 1992, the town of Ottawa had already adopted professional hockey: the Silver Seven (nickname of the team) evolved/moved at the beginning of the Années 1900 in the landscape of the hockey of North America. The Senators are at the base of the creation of the LNH in 1917 and have work during more than fifteen years before being dismantled at the end of the season 1933-34.

The team gained on many occasions the Coupe Stanley: certain times that were following challenges (1903, 1904,1905,1909 and 1911) and other times at the end of seasons of the LNH (1920, 1921, 1923 and 1927).

The revival of the frankness
Bruce Firestone is at the origin of the return of the LNH in Ottawa and this as of 1986. Some time later, it is joined by Rod Bryden which occupies alor to find investors.

At the time of the expansion of 1992 of the League, the towns of Ottawa and Tampa (in Florida) are seen granting a new frankness.

Mel Bridgeman is named managing director and Rick Bowness trainer. During the fishing out of expansion, Ken Hammond, Brad Shaw and Laurie Boschman belongs to selected and a few days later, the Senators make Alexeï Yachine their first choice with the fishing out of entry in the League.

First disappointing seasons

First participations in the series
It is finally in 1996-97 that the Senators reach the series for the first time, following one season of 77 points. The following season, disappointing the Alexandre Daigle is exchanged with the Flyers of Philadelphia in return of Pat Falloon and Václav Prospal. In 1998-99, Marián Hossa makes its beginnings with the team whereas Pierre Gauthier gives up his general position of director. It is replaced by Rick Dudley. In spite of a superb season of 103 points, Ottawa is eliminated once again by the Sabers in first round and four matches.

The following season, Yachine dissatisfied with the level of the team decides to set out again for the season in Russia. Radek Bonk, Hossa and Alfredsson then carries out the team about another excellent season, but the Maple Leafs of Toronto crush the hopes of the Sens in first round. Maple Leafs become the animal black of the Sens by eliminating them during the four seasons which follow.

Yachine returns in the team in 2000-01 but its will have decreased and he is not listened any more like front. Finally after a season of 109 points and an elimination in first round, it takes the direction of the Islanders of New York in return of their first choice at the time of the future fishing out of 2001 and of the defender Zdeno Chára. The Senators choose Jason Spezza and it is associated with Martin Havlát.

The years pass and resemble each other for the Senators with brilliant regular seasons but of the very short eliminatory series.

The only exception is the season 2002-03 where Ottawa passes to a hair to reach the finale of the Coupe Stanley under the direction of John Muckler.

After another elimination against Maple Leafs in 2003-04, Jacques Martin is thanked, Radek Bonk dispatched in Los Angeles against a third choice with the fishing out and the guard number one, Patrick Lalime, atterit with the Blues of Saint-Louis in return of a fourth choice of round. At the dawn of the season 2004-05, Bryan Murray is named trainer and the guard Dominik Hašek sign as a free agent.

The eliminatory series of 2007 started with an elimination in five parts of the Penguins de Pittsburgh for then beating the Devils of the New Jersey on the same number of match. They eliminated the Sabers from Buffalo finally of conference by the mark of 4-1 and will reach for the first time in the history of the frankness the finale from the Coupe Stanley against the Ducks d' Anaheim.
