Semion Lavotchkine

Semion Alexeïevitch Lavotchkine [[Cyrillic] СемёнАлексеевичЛавочкин] is a Russian engineer then Soviet born on August 29th/September 11th, 1900 with Smolensk, dead on June 9th, 1960 with Moscow, originator and manufacturer of the planes of OKB Lavotchkine.

After its studies of engineer at the university of Moscow, he worked as from 1927 in the aircraft industry of the Soviet Union then at the institute of aerohydrodynamic TsAGI as from 1929. In 1938, it was named chief of research department. In 1940, it developed the hunter LAGG 1 (Lavotchkine- Gorbounov - Goudkov), then an improved version provided with auxiliary tanks indicated LAGG 3. A more powerful version been driven by an engine cooled by air was built in great series under designation La-5 as from 1942. It was unceasingly improved (versions La-7, La-9).

Since 1945, Lavotchkine built jets to sweptback wings. A prototype which made its first flight in 1947 gave rise to the hunter La-15.

Lavotchkine was member of the Academy of Science of the USSR. It was also named Héros of socialist work, accepted 4 times the Prix of the State and was decorated with the Ordre of Lénine.
