The term Budweiser indicates two marks of Bière S: the Budweiser Budvar produced in Czech Republic, and the American Bud produced with the the United States. It is besides about the oldest still irresolute commercial conflict to date, since the first traces of lawsuit go back to 1880. Today, the number of lawsuits between the two companies is estimated at 40, even if, since 1939, a compromise enters the two companies holds the name Budweiser with the Czech mark in Europe and with the American mark in the rest of the world.

An agreement signed on January 8th, 2007 between Anheuser-Busch and Budějovický Budvar Národní Podnik (BBNP) marks a big change in the commercial conflict between the two brewers. Anheuser-Busch becomes the American importer of the beer Czechvar Premium (name of Budweiser Budvar in the United States) and integrates the mark into its sales force thus allowing a strong positioning on the segment of beers imported the United States, segment in strong growth: 7% in 2005 and more than 10% in 2006.

Budweiser Budvar

Also called Budweiser Czechvar , it is brewed since 1895 by the company Budějovický Budvar in the town of České Budějovice (Budweis, in German) in Czech Republic. The brewery asserts a tradition even older: a beer produced in the city was already consumed at the 16th century at the court of the king Ferdinand Ier of the Holy roman Empire. Besides Budweiser draws its slogan from it from Beer off kings (beer of the kings). However, the first Pils was created only in 1842 and it is far from probable that the beer brewed at the 16th century was the same one as the current Budweiser .

Pils traditional, it has a rather marked malted taste and an average bitterness with weak. Color yellow-but, it is made starting from Saaz, one of the most famous varieties of Houblon S of the world. It has a foam fine and generous and titrates with 5° alcohol, which makes a rather light beer of it according to the Czech standards.

American Bud

In 1876, Anheuser-Busch creates a light beer with Saint Louis. These brewers of German origin choose this Czech name and are inspired openly by beer receipts of Bohemia.

In the years 1890, this beer takes off the epithet of King Beers (queen of beers).

Composed of hop of Barley and Rice, it is clarified on a bed of chips of beech and undergoes a second Fermentation. Titrating with 4,8° alcohol, it must be drunk fresh with 6°C.

Often regarded as being the standard as regards light, refreshing and not very vigorous beer of American style, its lack of savor is in general little appreciated European consumers. It is nevertheless the beer most sold with the world.
