Selenguinsk

Selenguinsk (in Russian Cеленгинск) is a city of the République of Bouriatie, in Russia. It is located close to the river Selenga, to 60 km in the west of Oulan-Oude and to 50 km of banks of the Lac Baïkal. Its population rises with: 15789 in 2006.

Selenguinsk has a Combine of cellulose and paperboard (Tsellioulozno-kartonny Kombinat, TsKK), brought into service in 1973, which was a serious source of pollution for the lake Baïkal. The first Purification plant built in 1989 made it possible to reduce considerably the rejections in the lake, but air pollution remains.
