Birth of its career

Born with Lake Jackson with the Texas, Selena was more young child of Abraham and Marcela Quintanilla, all the two Americans of Mexican origin. It started to sing at the 6 years age. When it was 9 years old, it sang in the group Selena there Los Dinos that his/her father had created. They sang initially in the restaurant of the family Quintanilla (Papagallos), but the restaurant closed shortly after.

The Quintanilla family found itself quickly without money and was expelled of their house. They left in an old bus, by carrying all their musical equipment. They were established with Corpus Christi, in the Texas of the south. Over there, they played everywhere where they could: with the corners of the streets, with the marriages, in the will quinceañeras, in the fairs, etc Their efforts ended up paying in 1984, when Selena, then 12 years old, recorded its first album ( Selena there Los Dinos ) for a studio of local recording. The album was not sold in stores, and his/her father bought all the original copies. This album arose in 1995, under the title: Mis Will precede Grabaciones .

Selena was good pupil at the school. But as its fame of singer increased, the voyages necessary to its career started to interfere with its education. His/her father withdrew it school whereas it was with the eight rank and it continued its education on the road. At the 17 years age, it obtained a diploma of the American School by correspondence ( The American School off Correspondence ) of Chicago, and was accepted at the University of state of Louisiana ( Louisiana State University ). Selena left its second album, Alpha , in 1986.

Success

Selena gained the price of the female interpreter of the year ( Female Vocalist off the Year ) to the Tejano Music Awards of 1987. It continued to gain this price the seven years which followed (until its death). In 1988, it to leave 2 albums, Preciosa and Dulce Amor . In 1989, Jose Behar, the leader of division Latin Musique of Sony signed a contract with Selena under the label Capitol Records of EMI. Jose Behar declared later that it had signed with Selena because it thought of having discovered the news Gloria Estefan. Selena signed the same year a contract with Coca-Cola to become one their spokespersons. Its concerts started to attract thousands of spectators.

In 1988, Selena met the guitarist Chris Perez, who had his own group. Two years later, the Quintanilla family engaged it to play in the group of Selena, and they quickly fell in love. At the beginning, his/her father did not appreciate the relation between Perez and Selena, and went until expelling Perez of the group. He ends up accepting their relation, in the condition which they marry and move in an adjacent house at the family home. Selena accepted, and the April 2nd 1992, Selena and Perez married in the county of Nueces to the Texas. Selena added the name of her husband to his own name.

An anecdote amusing concerning Selena: his/her parents, having initially wanted to educate it like true small American, did not teach him Spanish. It began its career without speaking a word about it, but by repeating with the ear what his/her father said to him.

The discovery of this fact by the Latino community was done in several times.

One day, very young Selena was found wedged by Mexican reporters, which realized quickly that it did not include/understand a word of what they said. They laughed much, but maintained the secrecy.

The remainder of the community learned it, for the majority, only after its death, some having even to await the publication of film for that.

Before that, the news was only spread out starting from Corpus Christi in Texas over the territory latino very late and very slowly, people preferring to maintain this secrecy.

It was, in any case, perfectly bilingual with its death.

Its death

With the beginning of the year 1995, the Quintanilla family discovered that Yolanda Saldívar, president of the fan-club of Selena and director of its shops, diverted part of the money of the shops. They decided to lay off it. Little time afterwards, Selena agreed to meet Saldívar with an aim of recovering documents for income tax returns. The appointment was fixed the morning of the March 31st 1995 in a hotel Days Inn, with Corpus Christi, the Texas. In the motel, Selena required the missing documents. Saldívar delayed the handing-over of papers, applicant to be violated in Mexico City. Selena led Saldívar to the local hospital, where the doctors did not find any trace of rape. Saldívar turned over to the motel, and Selena required the missing documents again.

An argument followed, and Saldívar left a gun its handbag, initially pointing it on its own head, then on Selena. Whereas Selena left the part, Saldívar drew first once in the back to him. Selena ran until the reception of the hotel with an aim of finding of the assistance, while Saldívar pursued it and bitch treated it. Before crumbling on the ground, Selena indicated Saldívar like its loophole and the number of hotel room where it had been cut down. The ambulance and the police force were able to transport it to the hospital, but having already lost too much blood, Selena died in the local hospital with 13:05, at the 23 years, 16 days age before its 24e birthday. The gun used to kill Selena was destroyed later, and its remainders were thrown in bay of Corpus Christi.
