The Sélaginelles (kind Selaginella ) are today reduced with this only kind pertaining to the family of the Sélaginellacée S. the kind Selaginella account currently approximately 700 species.

Etymology

The word Selaginella is the diminutive of Selago which is the name given by Pline to certain Conifers then taken again to indicate the Lycopode S. Autrefois, Sélaginelles were described like small Lycopods.
