Sekhmet

Sekhmet ( powerful the ) is a goddess of the Egyptian Mythologie. It is represented by a Femme with head of lioness carrying the Solar disk; its Bouche of lioness the winds leave the Désert.

Warlike goddess personifying the devastations of the Sun, it is the instrument of the revenge on Re against the Insurrection of the men. Its body burning and its incandescent arrows destroy the enemies of the king.

Worship

It brings the Maladie S by its Miasme S (amongst other things during the last five days of the year, before the return of the year Nouvelle). In order to prevent that it does not kill all the human ones, Re had to make him prepare a special beverage of alcohol coloured Rouge to alleviate its thirst for Sang. In this way, it is replaced by Hathor. It is this history which was repeated at the time of a festival of old Egypt where alcohol was consumed in a deliberately excessive way.

However, the initiate can gain his favors on the condition of overcoming his own fears; because in spite of her violence, the goddess has the capacity of cure, which devoted it goddess of the doctors.

Identifications and genealogy

It is wife of Ptah and mother of Néfertoum in the triad Memphite.

The goddess she-cat Bastet is identified sometimes in Sekhmet.
