Seisms on the Ile de Ré
The seisms are rather present in France, but the zones which present a relatively important seismic risk relate to the the Pyrenees, the Provence and the west of France; the Ile de Ré thus does not return in account. However, of the jolts were felt on the island with the wire of the centuries.
Nearly 50 seisms between the years 1568 and 1908 occurred in the area of the Aunis, and some agitated the island. The damage caused by the earthquakes was very weak, but the inhabitants felt them all the same. Short-nap cloths of tides, which one calls also " vimers" , for the majority of them were perhaps caused by certain seisms.
Légende S accompany the simsic history by Ré: certain people believed that the Breton Pertuis sheltered a Volcan; another legend tells that the creation of the island would be due to terrible seisms whose only survivors would be the Ile de Ré and of Oléron ( to see here for more precise details ).
