The Seimas (complete name: Lietuvos Respublikos Seimas ) is the name of the Parlement monocaméral of the République of Lithuania. It is composed of 141 members elected for a four years mandate according to a system close to that used in Germany:
- 71 deputies are elected with the majority poll in each of the 71 districts which account country;
- 70 deputies are elected at the national level according to a list system and a mode of poll proportional.
To obtain seats according to the mode proportional, one needs that a list obtains, at the national level, at least 5% of the voices; nevertheless for an electoral union between several parties, the threshold of representation is fixed at 7% of the voices.
There are two sessions of the Seimas each year, the session of Printemps between the March 10th and the June 30th and the session of Automne between the September 10th and the December 23rd.
