Presentation
Whereas the Symbole of Corellon is increasing of the Moon, that of Sehanine, goddess of the moon, is the full moon.
It controls the omens, the divinations, the subtle magic and protects from the madness. It takes care on the dreams of the elves, protects them when they St in Daydream and sends to them messages concerning of future dangers. Sehanine supervises the passage of the elves spirits in death, and it protects them. The Girl of the Night skies is also a guardian and it protects those which travel far from their ground or which leave for Eternal-Meets. It keeps the refuges and prevents the intrusions. Sehanine controls the spiritual long voyages, physics or, and in the elfic Culture, the reality of the reincarnation incarnates. Séhanine and Corellon work together to guide the spirit towards its best possible incarnation, and its perfection. Although Sehanine is adored by the Elfes, of the half-elves and certain illusionists gnomes, she is particularly venerated by the moon elves who see it like their protective. The elves who seek to explore transcendantaux mysteries, which wait to leave for Evermeet or the Arvandor, or which travels, request the lunar Goddess, just as the soothsayers and the illusionists.
Alternatively called the woman and the girl of Corellon, Sehanine is the most powerful goddess of Seldarines. Identified like capacities of the moon, its tears auriaent given rise to the elves while mixing with the blood of Corellon. The elves do not forget that. Sehanine is at the same time the primary education aspect of Angharradh, and one of the three goddesses (the two others being Hanalil Celanil and Aerdrie Faenya) which train the Triune Goddess together. This duality strongly binds Sehanine with the two others, and the three serve Corellon by guiding Seldarine. Sehanine has excellent relations with the Seldarine S, and it is its benevolence which calms the anger of Shevarash and its reception which brings back Fenmanel in Arvandor from time to time. The luminous Cloud has strong contacts apart from Seldarine, because its state exceeds the other divinities. She works with Séluné which shares same the concepts and is allied of Eilistraee, that she regards as a adpotive girl. She has relations with certain half-human divinities who take care on death, but not with those which support the black nécromancie (she tolerates the experiments of nécromancie white, like the creation of baelnorn, " a practice necessary, but not indispensable"). The anthipathy which it dedicates to Lolth exists since the latter was Araushnee, partner of Corellon and instigator of the plot against the Guard. She is opposed to the capacities Drow S. With the arrival of the men and their expansion, Sehanine devotes her energy to fight against the devastations of the gods like Aurile, Cyric, Malar, Talos and Umberlee.
Sehanine is worried personally very seldom in the Kingdoms, except through the illusions hiding Eternal-Meets, Synnoria, Rucien-Xan, and Myth Dyraalis, and by guiding the elves who go there. Its capacity increases and drops with the phases of the moon, newcomer to its apogee during the 3 days of full moon. Goddess of the mysteries, surrounded by secrecies and illusions, it expresses herself seldom directly, preferring commniquer through the mystical dreams and visions. The Lunar Goddess is serene, light and very spiritual and disappears as soon as one tries to bore his nature.
Appearance
Sehanine appears as an elf who is at the same time young person and old, wearing a diaphanous and luminescent veil like the moon.
Its clergy
The clerks of Sehanine are generally well-read men and know the elfic religion. The church of Séhanine is generally perceived as withdrawn from the daily businesses. Also, few human know really this clergy. The Foi of the Goddess is cherished because the Luminous Cloud includes and links all the elves. For the People Fairy, Sehanine personalizes the joy in the heart of the elves, and its priests are guides towards the Other Life, the other World. The Temples of Sehanine are monuments which go up in the airs, only open to the elves and certain pious half-elves. The majority of the temples are built out of white stone (often marble) and are built to inspire an imminent take-off. Symmetry and the circles are very snuffed by the faith, reflected in the architecture of the houses of prayers of Sehanine. The central vault always perfectly circular and is generally opened with the night sky, or covered by a retractable or transparent dome. Large gardens and hedges often surround in form complexes the principal structure, their formation imitating the ways of the constellations. Around the old temples, one finds large stone megaliths, which are used to calculate the race and the positions of stars or the moon according to the period of the year. The astrlogists elves calculate there the trajectories and the arrivals of comets and shooting stars.
Dogma
The life is a series of mysteries whose secrecies are revealed by the Luminous Cloud. When the spirit transcends its bonds mortals and that new mysteries are discovered, a higher form is reached and the Cycle of the continuous life. Through contemplation and the meditation, the communion with the Lady of the Dreams is accomplished. Through the omens, the Dream S and the visions revealed during the Sleep or the Daydream, the Girl of the Night sky reveals little by little next walk on the way and the following destination in the infinite voyage of the mystical wonder which are the Vie and the Mort. " Venerate the mysterious Moon, which traces and attracts the waves and the beings in us tous."
Day laborers activities of the priests of Sehanine
The priests of Séhanine are the indicators and the mystics of the elfic company. They are used spiritual advisers to the elves and for the half-elves who embark in voyages to the research of the illumination, to exceed itself. At the same time guards and guards of deaths, the priests organize and manage the funerary rites and keep the remainders of the late ones. They seek to destroy thealive ones, because Séhanine sees them (except the baelnorns, and some deaths alive of Bon alignment, or those which seek to lengthen their existence to serve their race) like pure blasphemies. Defenders of the grounds elves, the clerks are responsible to weave and maintain the illusions which keep hidden the sanctuaries, against the threats of the existence. The task first of the adventurous priests is also the forgotten research of the mysteries lost and magic knowledge, especially what touches with the illusions. Others seek elfic enclaves isolated to bring the news of the Retirement and to propose their assistance to prepare them the Exile). The priests are not guides during the voyage itself, because the Lady provides the indices itself…)
Holy ceremonies and days
The faithful ones of Séhanine celebrate several days, which depend on the position of certain constellations and the lunar phases, or certain eclipses. The majority of these festivals occur only once per decade or once per century, even only once by millenium. The most frequent festivals arrive once a month, under the light of full moon. These nights are called Lunar Veilles, Sanctifications or Dedications, or Holy Nuits. They are marked by the personal meditation and the collective entry in a common fright. On the occasion, Séhanine appears through the assembly of faithful to make amalgamate the spirits. Such nights are completed by merry dances under the lunar star, until the first sun ray appears. Once per annum, the faithful ones meet to celebrate the Festival of the Moon, where the Mystical Rites of the Luminous Cloud are accomplished. Similar to the Days before, the Festivals proceed in the same way but Séhanine is done more present and surrounds the participants of a halation shining who fall from the sky in the shape of moon drops. During such mystical rains, the mysteries are revealed with the excessively pious people, according to their level of spiritual development. The ceremony is completed when the nimbus of light disappears in the ground.
When time comes for an elf to leave the grounds of the mortals, it is frequent that the individual spends long days in a daydream. No elf can know the exact moment where that will arrive to him, even proper priests of Séhanine. The other elves notice immediately when the phenomenon arrives at one the their congeneric ones, but two facts really confirm that the transcendence started. Firstly, Séhanine sends a vision to the elf of the place where it must begin his voyage. Secondly, a milky crescent appears on the retina of the elf. It is called archelune. When a very wise elf and very old man are ready to leave his life, a full moon can fill per moment the pupil. Other elves on rare occasions join the late future in a fright, sharing its memories and its knowledge, by a called direct telepathic communion Cercle of Transcendence. In the elfic culture Sylvaine, the elf leaves then only and his body is never found. If not, the elf dies and leaves an empty body, the envelope of his spirit. In the event of violent death, the priests achieve in the name of Séhanine a ritual replacing the Cycle of Transcendence. A Ceremony of Fright and a Ritual of Covered last several days, allowing a mystical communion with nature and the world spiritual, and a meditation. If that succeeds, the priest focuses the spirit of late through his own bond with the goddess., allowing the spirit to join Arvanaith. During such ceremonies, the archelune appears on the eye of the priest and disappears at the end from the rite. These ritual varies according to the communities but often resembles prayers, praises, and celebrations. The tears are very rare. If the body is present, still, the rites vary. The elves gather in large pump to bury the body while speakers rent the facts and the merits of death. Other elves bury the body immediately, seeing it only as one empty shell that the life left. After the burial, they celebrate the spirit in the places which were expensive to him. Elves burn the body, so that it cannot be used again. those which bury the body in great ceremonies leave archaeological traces of the funerary rites, therefore the burial in formal tombs is less widespread than it appears to with it. For the races of surface, the remainders of gilded elves or moon elves often rest in tombs, but the practice is not universal for the elfic race. The tombs are in general hones some, underground, sanctified and kept by magic seals. Whereas the dwarves prefer the mechanical traps, the elves furnish the tombs with labyrinths, false tombs and protection magic. Séhanine hides the tombs by illusions, and the place is always kept secret by the people elf. A common tomb is divided into three rooms of circular or rectangular form, with semicircular domes and round arches. The first part represents the world which has just been left by the elf. The walls are engraved, representing trees, plants and animals which counted for the elf. One very often finds a small fountain (of which water is magiquement faded to prevent the stagnation and evaporation) in his center. The second part includes a stone bed on which the body rests, locked up in a sarcophagus when the body is mutilated. The walls are furnished by the objects with the late one, and the ceiling represents the sky (or the constellations) at the time of its death. That is used to date the death. The third room represents Arvainath, the destination of the spirit, and of the drawings of Seldarines the walls decorate. The ceiling is decorated with a crescent of the moon on a full moon, symbolizing the role of Corellon and Séhanine, which supervise the passage between the worlds. This part is empty, but all those which enter there are filled up of a feeling of peace. It is a collective demonstration of Seldarines. It is interdict to have thoughts or gestures violent one in this room. The elves seldom bury magic objects, because they can have a utility. But one finds there musical instruments, or valuable articles or decorative. Sometimes, of the elves of the same house are buried in the same crypt, whose first part acts as common corridor.
Major sites
Although the largest temples are found on theGreen one, the valley of Evereska and in the wood of the Court Elfique, the site more crowned of the Lady of the Dreams remains the Tears of Aloevan. It is a temple of in addition to-plan hidden in a cloud magic, accessible by a mystical water fountain, lost in a small valley in the middle of the Ardeep Forest. Following the example black elf Qlue Veladorn who served at the same time Mystra and Eilistraee, Aloevan was formerly the Elected official of Séhanine and the Lady of the Mysteries. The fall in the madness of the queen elf of the moon and her death were a tragic loss for at the same time the Elfique People and the semi-human races of the area, because of its icapcity to control the money fire which consumed it. The spirit of Aloevan was unable to pass in Arvainath and was trapped in a cloud of money fire, between Faerûn and Arvandor. To relieve the pain of the queen who had sacrificed herself so much, seven priests of Séhanine créérent a bond between the natural world and the limbs spiritual in which the spirit could not leave. During centuries, priests worked to soften the torment of the insane queen, and through that recreated short lost it of Ardeep in the dimensional pocket formed starting from the money fire which it could not control. The spirit of Aloevan is from now on able to materialize in the shape of a player of spectral toothing-stone, within the limits of the Court of the Money Fire, the principal building. But the tears and the laughter of Aloevan are submerged by the madness, also seven priests retain the vestiges of its memories. During the solar eclipses, the passage between the Court and the Ardeep Forest are possible. In such moments, a priest of Séhanine can go to replace one of the seven residents, at the request of the goddess. All those which sought another entry in wood ever returned, also nobody does not know if the priests called succeeded in arriving at the Court.
Affiliated orders
- the Knights of the seven Crowned Mysteries are well-known for their defense of the elfic grounds against the invaders telqess, just like their efforts to find the lost volumes of the knowledge elfic in the deposed kingdoms. The order is composed elves (gilded and of the moon) and half-elves. One finds in his rows of the warriors, the clerks and the rangers. The necessary ones to join the order are held secret non-members. But it is known that there exist seven stages in the hierarchy and that it takes sometimes more than one century of faithful service so that a mystery is revealed. The knights of the First Mystery are at the base of the pyramid. No half-elf went higher than knight of the Fourth Mystery. The knights of the Seventh Mystery are the most powerful agents of Séhanine to traverse the world. The most known house of the order is in Ruith, on Eternal-Meets. Two others can be found in the Valley of Evereska and Wood Mixed with the Elfique Forest.
- the Sentinels of Archelune are small communuté prowlers servants of Séhanine. The Sentinels take care on the animals which can be the reincarnations of elves of another time. Their goal is also to track and destroy the dead-alive creatures.
- the Buckled Heart is a mysterious fraternity of mystics, with which the existence is full with rumors, secrecies and legends. The Sisters are re-elected for their prophecies, and their visions are revealed in songs without end. It is thought that there is only one handle of these old elves, living in a temple forgotten by all. Adventurous elves often seek to find this site which is not on Eternal-Meets. Sometimes, a lucky elf can track Cantoria, but all those which go on their way fail. The reward when a sanctuary is discovered is the blessing known Luminous Cloud and a mysterious prophecy which can make insane the elf who hears it.
Clothing of the priests
The clergy prefers dresses or togas (for the men) of a silver plated, pure and diaphanous white. They carry a money diadem, from which fall an opal, between the eyes. The feet are fitted in simple sandals, and it size is tied by a money lace. The crowned symbol (a half-moon and its disc 7 cm in diameter approximately) is tied around the neck by a chain of mithril and is related to the chest. In adventure, the priests like to carry leather armours decorated with chains of Mithril, and a simple shield. The warriors carry elfic punt armours. The common weapons are the arc and the stick.
