The Segura (Latin Thader , Arabic War-Alabiat ) is a Fleuve Spanish, most important of the area of Murcie and province of Alicante. Its source is at Santiago Pontones, with 1  413 meters of altitude, in the province of Jaén. Segura crosses Calasparra, Cieza, Murcie, Beniaján, Orihuela, Rojales and is thrown in the the Mediterranean with Guardamar del Segura (province of Alicante).

The medium flow today is of 26 m ³ /s with Cieza (area of Murcie), 5 m ³ /s in Orihuela and only 1 m ³ /s with Guardamar del Segura, water being pumped for the market gardenings of Murcie and Orihuela, called “Vega del Segura”.

But Segura is a very irregular river which knows catastrophic risings: at the 20th century in 1946,1948,1973,1987 and 1989. In April 1946, October 1948 and November 1987 the flow reached more 1  000 m ³/S.A. Orihuela. The largest rising of the history with Murcie took place on October 15th of 1879 with 1  890 m ³ /s.

Its principal affluents are named: Mundo, Benamor and Alhárabe, Mula and Guadalentin.
