Geography

History

Fusion in 1825 of the two communes of Beaubec-the-City, whose Scandinavian name of origin means beautiful brook (“Belbech” quoted in 1143), and of Rosière which owes its name with the many reeds of this wet territory: the Epte and the Andelle take their source in the vicinity.

Foundation in 1127 by Hughes de Gournay of the abbey of Bellus-Beccus, girl of Savigny, joined together with Cîteaux in 1148 and which became in one century mother of nine Couvent S and an old people's home. She sheltered the relics of Saint Hélier, martyrized with Jersey at the 6th century. The abbey was destroyed by a fire in 1383 and partially rebuilt with the XV {{E}} and 18th centuries. The abbey was plundered, sold and demolished with the Révolution. Apart from the Holy-Ursule vault, there remain about it nothing any more but some traces of the infirmary, the farm, the visiting room and the dependences.

A few kilometres from there, one can still see a rural whole with Saint-Arnoult, in the canton of Formerie, known under the name of priory, which was a dependence of the abbey of Beaubec.

The abbot of Beaubec had considerable goods in this area of Oise close to the Seine Maritime. Until the XVIII° century, the abbot of Beaubec is lord to some extent of Saint-Arnoult.

This old abbey dependence is appeared as a farm of which the buildings are laid out around a large square court. A fire made disappear into 1976 two thirds from the buildings. Oldest was saved. It is a home in wood side of the end of the 15th century century which has two levels of carved corbellings of perfectly preserved reasons.

It is a private property opened with the public.
