Sedimentation is the whole of the processes by which the particle S physics (organic or mineral) in suspension and transit cease moving and settle, becoming thus Sédiment S. Sedimentation is increased in the zones of attenuated Hydrodynamisme.

In Geology, one says that the sediments are laid out in layers. And if there is interruption in the continuity of sedimentation one speaks about discordance. Between two layers, when the sediment is not compacted yet, there are slip and thus formation of a Slump: the layers are disturbed and become solid only then.

In Physical: Sedimentation (decantation) is also one of the processes of separation of the mixtures. It consists in letting form a deposit the suspended particles in the liquids to be able to separate them. It is a principle used by certain purification plants of water (mud tanks).
