Sedan is a common French, located in the department of the the Ardennes and the area Champagne-Ardenne.
The old name of the city and Latin name of this one is Sedensi .
Its inhabitants are the Sedanais .
Geography
The town of Sedan is located at about fifteen kilometers of the Belgian border
and at equal distance from
Charleville-Mézières, on the Meuse, in the department of the the French Ardennes. In
Belgium, the frontier city is Bouillon. The Château of Sedan is built on a rocky outcrop at the edge of the forest.
History
The town of Sedan develops around the castle built by
Evrard of Marck starting from
1424. The castle will not cease being sophisticated and increased during the following centuries and in particular by
Jean Errard. The lords of Marck are recognized sovereign princes of Sedan during the 16th century, under
Henri-Robert of Marck which chooses the religion Protesting E. The currency of the town of Sedan is
UNDIQUE ROBUR , it was the currency of the lords of Marck. It means “force of any share”.
During the wars of religion, many Protestants is accommodated in the Principauté of Sedan, intellectuals,

Alsace-Lorraine wanting to remain French after
1870 and which came of number in the the Ardennes, there is also a temple with Charleville.

In 1870, Napoleon III was encircled and overcome in Sedan by the Prussian troops and of the German States united. The battle took place with the accesses of citadel of Sedan, particularly with Bazeilles where intense street battles took place. The troops of marines Frenchwomen were defended bitterly. In May 1940, the German Armée made a decisive opening while crossing the Meuse with the accesses of Sedan (Percée of Sedan). The city was partly destroyed then rebuilt after the second world war under the direction of the architect Jean de Mailly.
