The Section of Gravilliers was represented with the Commune of Paris by:

  • Jean-Claude Girardin (1746 - 1794), eventaillist, municipal officer, guillotine the 11 Thermidor year (July 29th 1794) for its conspiracy against the national Convention,
  • Jonquois (1750 - 1794), administrator of police force, guillotine (the July 29th 1794) for same the reasons as Girardin,
  • Greppin, administrator of police force, initially suspected of having taken part in the conspiracy against national convention it was finally released.

Territory: District of Arts and Trades.

Population: 27.800 inhabitants, including 4700 workmen and 1616 lower-income group.

This section is famous in annals of the French revolution, tamed after the elimination of its organizer, the abbot Jacques Roux. It remained faithful to national Convention on Thermidor 9 year (July 27th, 1794), except two representatives of this section who lent oath to the Commune of Paris.

Report/ratio of Courteous Edme-Bonaventure: The section of Gravilliers acted very well. Its armed force went the first on the den of the conspirators. The revolutionary Committee did not balance a moment to be adopted Convention. The civil Committee followed in its walk a tortuous road. Two of its police chiefs by their signatures took part in the movements of the rebels and retracted only conditionally this signature at the time of their return to the section.
