Secretariat (March 30th 1970 - October 4th 1989), is a racehorse English Pur-sang, born from Bold Ruler and Something Royal. It was born with the Clairbone farm, in the State of Virginia, the United States.

At the 2 years age, it gains 7 of the 9 races to which it is registered. First exploit of this champion, it is named horse of the year, whereas usually the selected horses are old of 3 or 4 years.

In 3 years, it takes part in the preparatory test for the Kentucky Derby, in which it finishes first, but it is disqualified for fixing at the beginning of the race.

Lastly, in the Belmont Stakes, 3rd stage of triple crown, it carries it unambiguous by sowing for the posterity its adversaries on the way, establishing world records of the 2400 m into 2 ' 24" (stopwatch which remains the record of the test, always unequalled in 2006). Become standard, Secretariat gave the champion Smarty Jones and was especially a remarkable father of mothers: via his/her daughters were born the aces A.P. Indy and Seattle Slew, as well as the exceptional standard Storm Cat. It was Chief candidate of the fathers of mothers in North America in 1992.

Secretariat died of a Fourbure, disease which attacks the shoe horse.

A statue is high in its honor on the hippodrome of Belmont Park so that each one remembers this exceptional horse in which nobody believed.
