It is also only the " Athenaeum pontifical" who is located inside the walls of the Vatican City.

The school trains paleographers and archivists. The cycle of the courses lasts in beginning 1 year then, according to the matters, 2 years. Very quickly, the group of the students is internationalized and laicized.

Initially located in the Museums of the Vatican, its seat is transferred in the Court from the View-point in 1968, with the reform operated by the Pope Paul VI (statute definitively approved in 1975). Consequently, is founded an annual course of Greek paleography (directed by Mgr Paul Cannart, Scriptor graecus of the Apostolic Library) beside the annual course of archivistic and the biennial of paleography, diplomatic and archivistic course.
