Secondary electron

A secondary electron is an electron torn off on the surface of a solid during a process of Ionization itself produced by an interaction with another radiation called then “primary education radiation”. This primary education radiation can be made up of Ion S, electron S, or Photon S whose energy must be larger than the Potentiel of ionization.

The process by which a secondary electron is generated calls the secondary emission.

In Electronic scan microscopy, the detection of secondary electrons is the most used means to form images.
