Secondary School Catholic Garneau

The secondary École catholic Garneau (known also under the name of ESC Garneau ) is a French school located in the community of Orleans (Ontario) which accommodates pupils of 7th until the 12th year.

History

Built in 1972, the school was named in the honor of the politician, poet and historian Canadian-French of the XIXe century, François-Xavier Garneau.

The building

The Garneau school was initially called “the bunker” because of its square form and the uniform color gray of the walls during construction. Following several suggestions and complaints, the external walls were painted colors yellow, red and blue, which is worth now the nickname of “GARN BARN” or " to him; lego bunker". In the east of Garneau is MIFO, an arts center which makes the promotion of the French-speaking culture near the pupils and the community.

Between 2001 and 2002, one built a new wing at this growing old school in order to integrate the pupils of 7th and 8th year of the close intermediate school Léo-D. - Side . This enlarging was justified by the demographic increase in Orleans and the cuts in the budget of the school council, CECLFCE (the Council of the Catholic schools of French language of Center-Is). The Léo-D school. - Side was closed and later used in order to move the elementary school there catholic Préseault as well as the catholic elementary school Of the Villagers. The name was changed at “Elementary school catholic Saint-Joseph of Orleans”.
