The second district of Hautes-Alpes is one of both French legislative districts which account the department of the Hautes-Alpes (05) located in area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.

Geographical and demographic description

The second district of Hautes-Alpes is delimited by the electoral Découpage of the law n°86-1197 of the November 24th 1986 . It covers the north-eastern half of the department. Mainly rural, it is centered around the town of Briançon, it gathers the following administrative divisions:

• Canton of Argentière-la-Bessée
• Canton of Briançon-North
• Canton of Briançon-South
• Canton of Spray
• Canton of the Low register
• Canton of Guillestre
• Canton of the Monêtier-the-Baths
• Canton of Orcières
• Canton of Saint-Bonnet-in-Champsaur
• Canton of Saint-Firmin
• Canton of Savines-the-Lake

According to the general Census of the population in 1999, carried out by the National institute of the Statistics and Economic studies (INSEE), the total population of this district is of: 52644 habitants^, .
