The Second Congress continental is an assembly of delegated of the 13 American colonies which sat from May 10th, 1775 to March 1st 1781. It adopted the Déclaration of American independence of July 4th, 1776 as well as the Articles of the Confederation . During the American Revolution, the Congress acted as government and made decisions concerning the foreign politics, the war and the currency.

History

The Congress meets in Philadelphia in Pennsylvania; but following the American defeat of Brandywine on September 11th, 1777, it had to initially flee for Lancaster (Pennsylvania) then for York (Pennsylvania). The weaponry was him also moved towards Reading (Pennsylvania). The confrontations continued in the area during one week. After having invested Philadelphia in September 1777, the British concentrated 9.000 men with Germantown, located at 8 km in the north of Philadelphia.
