Second Surprised love

Second Surprised love is a Comédie into three acts and Prose of Marivaux represented for the first time the December 31st 1727 by the ordinary actors of the king to the theater of the street of the Saint-Germain Ditches.

Second Surprised love presents an intrigue rather similar to that of the first surprised love . Here, it is the marchioness which is in the foreground, and it is in the evolution of its feelings that the action concentrates. Reserves of a love which is unaware of or which fights itself, consents delayed by decency, words which contradict the feelings, such are the charming features of this comedy.

History

The Countess is a widow who, after having lost her husband tenderly just liked a month after having married it, known as inconsolable. A pedant of the name of Hortensius which it engaged for him to read Sénèque spends more time continuing Lisette, which hardly listens to it, of his pédantesques and refined jokes. Also sometimes a count and a knight, both friends of the husband, to which it cannot refuse its door to them, come to see it. When it is claimed that the count, very hastened near the countess, will marry it, it is indignant at this assumption. As for the knight, an unhappy love affair in the middle, it is decided to cry forever the inaccuracy of its Angélique mistress. When Lisette engages it, to make diversion, to marry the marchioness, he refuses. When she learns this refusal, Ia marchioness is made indignant, seemingly against Lisette, which compromised it by offering its hand and actually against the knight, who refused it. Swearing itself to fix the rebel, she reaches that point and brings it to its feet. But, in this baited continuation, she forgot to preserve her own heart. If the knight is conquered, it is it also, and it will end up marrying it.
