Sebou

Introduction

Toponymy

Sbou: Asbour. Word made up of “ace”: place; “bour” or abour: marsh. This name was given to the downstream of the plain of gharb where the marshes were associated with the wadi sbou.

The Sebou is a Fleuve Morocco Ain, takes its sources in the Moyen Atlas. The Sebou Wadi: having an overall length of 614 km since its source, it has with its upstream water of the Rif groin (Wadi Lebène and Oued Ouargha) and those of the peaks (Wadi Guigou, Oued Zlouh, Oued Mikkés), without forgetting the Inaouène Wadi which comes from the area of Taza where it borders the areas averages-atlasiques and pre-Riffian. After having crossed the pre-Riffian hills, Sebou emerges in the plain of the Gharb, where it will receive the Beht Wadi and the Wadi R' dom in the South. and joined the Atlantic close to Kénitra to Mehdia, the medium flow rises to 137 m ³ /s. In winter, the highest average is that of February (350 m ³ /s), being able to reach 6000 m ³ /s in period of strong risings. The Sebou Wadi is one of the most important water resources of the Morocco; however, it is among the most polluted rivers of all the area because it is subjected to the rejections of domestic and industrial waste water.
