Sebastien Faure

Sebastien Faure (born the January 6th 1858 with Saint-Etienne - died the July 14th 1942 with Royan) was a Anarchiste French.

Biography

Resulting from a family traditionalist and preserving, his father, Auguste Faure, negotiating in silk trade, secured middle-class man, catholic practitioner, in favor of the Empire, decorated with the Legion of honor, intended it for the Society of Jesus. After having begun its studies of seminarist, stopped for family reasons, he became free-thinker. Engaging in policy it adheres to the working Parti French and presents to the elections 1885. It gives up this last while becoming anarchistic in 1888.

In 1894, he becomes the tutor of Sidonie Vaillant after the execution of his/her father, Auguste Vaillant. He is judged six months later at the time of the Procès of the thirty and will be discharged. In 1895, it founds, with Louise Michel, the newspaper the Libertarian . At the time of the Business Dreyfus, it was one of the leaders of the combat supporter of Dreyfus. In 1904, it creates close to Rambouillet a libertarian school called “the Hive”. In 1914, it starts to diffuse pacifist leaflets and antimilitarists against the war, calling with the desertion among the troops. It stops after having undergone police pressures threatening its close relations especially carrying the uniform. In 1916, it launches the periodical what it is necessary to say .

In 1918, it is imprisoned to have organized a prohibited meeting.

Theory of pedagogy

It opposes method traditional of Pedagogy, that it says deductive , which consists in explaining the concepts with the pupils who must assimilate them, with an inductive pedagogy that one can see like more modern, which lets the student do large work by itself. “Which seeks, makes the effort. ”

Neo-Malthusianism

Sebastien Faure adopts towards 1902 the theory néo-Malthusian developed in France by the libertarian pedagog Paul Robin. He will make many anti-natalistes conferences and néo-Malthusians thereafter.

He is also the initiator of the anarchistic Encyclopédie.
