The season 2000 - 01 is the 82e season of the Ligue Magnus of Hockey. This season, the championship bears the name of Élite .

Rheims is the champion in title. Grenoble finds the Elite after one season in Division 3 following preoccupations with a financial order. Lyon withdraws competition because of financial problems (and plays then in Division 3).

Formulate season

The season is articulated in two parts: the regular season and final stages.

• the regular season :

Only one and single hen where all the teams meet on two return tickets.

• the final stages :

1st of the classification meets 8th, the 2nd meeting 7th, the 3rd meeting 6th and the 4th meeting 5th at the time of the quarterfinals.

These meetings are called " séries". A series is played best of the 5 matches, the club best classified plays 3 home matches and consequently its adversary plays only 2 in residence of them.

The first returned club with 3 victories gains the series.

It is thus until the final.
