Season LNH 1965-1966

The season LNH 1965 - 66 was the 49e regular season of the National league of hockey. Six teams played each one 70 matches.

The Trophy To ballast Patrick made his appearance this season in order to reward an individual or with group for individuals for the services rendered to the hockey with the the United States. Jack Adams was the gaining first of the trophy.

Regular season

The Rangers of New York established new a goalkeeper whose destiny promised to be extraordinary: ED Giacomin. After having lost twice against the Canadian of Montreal, Rangers connected a series of 6 matches without defeat which seemed to forecast beautiful days. However the November 20th, the offensive armada of the Canadians crushes Rangers on the score of 9 goals to 3 (with 2 triplets of Ralph Backstrom and Bobby Rousseau).
The following day evening whereas Rangers face the Red Wings de Détroit and that the score is from 3 to 2 for Rangers, Red Wings register a goal putting the match at equality. The managing director of Rangers, Emile Francis, then starts to discuss with the referees the part what does not like much the supporters which are caught some with the trainer. Seeing that, half of the team of Rangers decides to go to lend strong hand to their president. With final, 12 players receive a total fine by the league of: 1800 Dollars and Francis 250 dollars. Following these incidents, Rangers did not find the victory and this even with Francis behind the bench in the place of George Sullivan. They finished in the last place of the championship.

Bobby Hull installs on its side a new record of goals (54 goals) and points (97), gaining consequently the Trophée Art Ross and a second consecutive year the Trophée Binder of the best player of the season.

The second match between the American teams took place the April 10th 1966 and the end result was of 7 goals with 0 for Red Wings. It was the first televised match of the history of the LNH.

; Finale The Canadian of Montreal gained their second consecutive Coupe Stanley by beating the Red Wings de Détroit on the score of 4 matches to 2.
