Season LNH 1944-1945

The season LNH 1944 - 45 was the 28e regular season of the National league of hockey. The six teams played each one 50 matches.

Regular season

At the beginning of seasons, the president of the league, Red Dutton wanted to leave the presidency because of personal concern. The station was proposed with Conn Smythe but this last refused and Dutton due to remain in station.

There the “ Punch Line ” of the Canadian of Montreal knew this year its best season with Maurice Richard which registered 50 goals in 50 matches (with in particular the evening of the December 29th 1944 one evening with 5 goals and 3 master keys against the Red Wings de Détroit). On the same line, Elmer Lach finishes second better pointer of the league with 26 goals and 80 points and the third place of the podium was taken by the third accomplice of the punch line , Toe Blake, with 29 goals. It was the first time of the history of the league which three players of the same line occupied the first three places of the classification of the pointer.

In front of the very good Season LNH 1943-44 which carried out Paul Bibeault with the Maple Leafs of Toronto, the Canadians refused to maintain it in close in Toronto and it took the direction of the Bruins of Boston.

Fortunately for Maple Leafs, those could sign a young guard of the name of Frank McCool which finishes better hope season and consequently gaining the Trophée Calder. It was the third consecutive Calder trophy for Toronto (first time of the history). McCool finishes the season with equality with the number of Blanchissage S (4) with the guard of the Blackhawks of Chicago, Mike Karakas. However it was Bill Durnan Canadians who gained for the second consecutive year the Trophée Vézina.

Finale of the Stanley Cut

The Maple Leafs of Toronto beat finally Cut, the Red Wings de Détroit at the end of 7 matches. The final match had as a score 2 to 1. It was the first season that the frankness which received the final did not gain the Coupe Stanley in the history of the league.
