Season LAH 2004-2005

The season 2004 - 05 of the American Ligue of hockey was the 69e season of the league. Twenty-eight teams disputed 80 matches each one in the regular season at the conclusion which, sixteen of them met during eliminatory Séries to gain the Coupe Calder. The Phantoms of Philadelphia were crowned champions, beating the Wolves of Chicago finally.

Context of the season

This season was marked by the lockout of the National league of hockey. Many players, not being able to evolve/move in LNH, engaged in the European leagues or the LAH. Moreover, this strike made it possible the LAH to occupy of large enclosures, practices reserved for the LNH, and to organize many matches there. The caves of the Mighty Ducks d' Anaheim, of the Sabers of Buffalo, the Predators of Nashville, the Sharks de San Jose or of the Lightning de Tampa Bay accommodated matches of LAH. The Road Runners d' Edmonton played even all their season in the skating rink of the Rexall Place, usually reserved for the Oilers d' Edmonton.

In complement, the LAH decided to test new rules to accelerate the play and to still make it more attractive:

Return of the shootings of shooting after the Prolongation. This rule, already used during the season 1986-87, makes it possible to designate a winner with each match, gaining it receiving two points, losing it a point.
Cancellation of the automatic off-side: an attacker returning in neutral zone without touching the disc is given concerned.
Reduction of the size of the equipment of the goalkeepers.
Reduction of the zone of play of the guards: they cannot touch any more the disc out of a certain zone behind their goal.

These rules are always used in LAH and were adopted since in LNH.

the Roadrunners of Toronto move with Edmonton to become the Road Runners d' Edmonton.

Match of Stars

The 18th match of Stars of the LAH took place the February 14th 2005 with the Verizon Wireless Arena with Manchester in the state of the New Hampshire. The team of Canada was beaten by the team associated with American and the rest of the world on the score of 5 goals with 4. During the contest of skills, Canadian was also beaten on the score from 17 to 13.
