Season 2007 of the WTA

The season 2007 of the WTA is primarily marked by the domination of the Belgian Justine Henin. In January due to marital problems goes away, it exerts, as of its return to the business in February - March, a total influence on the female circuit. With some ten victories in fourteen tournaments disputed, whose Roland-Garros, the US Open and the Masters, it concedes only one real against-performance with Wimbledon where it is, with the general surprise, mystified by Marion Bartoli in semi-final. For the benefit of this course almost without fault, she concludes 2007 number one world, very far in front of her competitors.

After a year 2006 of food shortage on the circuit, the Williams sisters return in the very first plan. Serena triumph initially with the Open of Australia, while Venus makes in the same way in Wimbledon. In spite of this fabulous doubled in Large Slam (the same one as in 2005), the American ones show a relative irregularity which prevents them from recovering their abandoned leadership earlier a few seasons.

The dauphine one of Henin, Svetlana Kuznetsova, takes down only one trophy, just like Maria Sharapova. The latter, handicapped by a tendinitis with the shoulder, obtains not very conclusive results in spite of two finales lost in Australia and in Masters. Serb the Jelena Jankovic and Anna Ivanović, respectively prizes winner of four and three tournaments, animate the essence of the season at the sides of the Russian Anna Chakvetadze (four titles).

Amélie Mauresmo, in the tread of its formidable assessment 2006, seizes in February the racket of diamonds in Antwerp. But, in bad physical condition, it is demobilized little by little and finished the year in free wheel.

Crowned with Indian Wells and Linz, Daniela Hantuchová reinstates the signal ten which it had left in 2003. Elena Dementieva, Gisela Dulko, Tatiana Golovin, Virginia Razzano and the young Hungarian woman Agnes Szavay also signs two successes each one, in tests of more variable prestige.

2007 see finally two old world's leaders officializing their sporting retirement: Kim Clijsters, on May 6th, to found a family; and Martina Hingis, on November 1st, following a positive control with cocaine at the time of the Wimbledon last.

Lindsay Davenport contrary, three months after the birth of his/her son, joins again brilliantly with the competition: it gains as of its tournament of recovery, in September with Bali, then with Quebec.

Into double ladies, Cara Black and Liezel Huber takes again, with a total success, their stopped collaboration in July 2005: they are essential on nine recoveries, including with International from Australia, in Wimbledon and Masters. Alicia Molik and Mara Santangelo creates the surprise with Roland-Garros. Holding of the title, Nathalie Dechy, preserves her good at US Open, associated with Dinara Safina.

In Fed Cup, favorite Russia finally dominates Italy 4 matches with 0 in Moscow.
