Seaford

Seaford is a city located on the southern part of the England. It is located between Brighton at the west and Eastbourne at the east. It is in the county of the Sussex of the East. It has a population of 22.000 inhabitants.

Between the years 1000 and 1500, Seaford was one of the main ports of England. But its port was closed by sedimentation and the French pirates destroyed the city several times.

Fortunes of the city improved after 1864 where the station was open. Seaford became a town of resource. She was visited by holiday makers of London and south of England.

Geography

The city is located on the site of a compartment of the sea which was supplemented by the sediment. It is surrounded by hills of chalk. The famous cliffs of Seven Sisters are on the coast, in the east of the city. Before 1920 the city had an excellent beach. But the dredging of the entry to the port of Newhaven made narrow the beach with Seaford. Dredging prevented new supplies sand from reaching the beach.

Towards 1980 the beach had disappeared. In 1987 more than one million tons of sand was taken benches of the Manche and place on the beach of Seaford. Since 1988, the city had a beach which was with far.

That is true, but much of visitors do not realize that the beach is artificial.

Administration and government

Between 1894 and 1974, Seaford was managed by the Council called the District Council of Seaford Urban . The members of this council were elected by the residents of Seaford. In 1974, the council of Seaford was removed. Between 1974 and 1999, Seaford was managed by the city close to Lewes. The loss of independence was inpopulaire near the people of Seaford, in 1999, it regained its own council.

The Council of Town of Seaford is controlled by 20 elected advisers. There are five zones in the city, each one electing 4 advisers. The senior officer of the council is Mr Len Fisher.

Economy

Seaford is a small town which is far away from the main roads and the railway lines. There is no industrial plant in the city. Several of the residents are pensioners. The principal employers in the city are hotels, houses of hosts, bars, restaurants, stores and schools.

The private schools were the principal employers Seaford until in 1960. There are always several private schools in the city. Most known of these last is the school of Newlands. The city attracts holiday makers and visitors. But those are mainly of southernmost England, little come from abroad.
