Sea trout

the sea trout is also called “the white one”, salmon Truite or silver plated trout. migrating Poisson of the family of the salmonidés , the sea trout belongs to a subspecies close to the Truite fario.

Nevertheless, this differentiation goes back to the classification of Linné. Since, the genetics proved that there was absolutely no genetic difference between a brown trout and a sea trout. As strange as it can appear, especially when two fish are compared: the trout (fario) has stripes and points of colors (more or less marked) whereas the sea trout resembles… a salmon. And yet, it is only about one adaptation to the medium, not of a different family.

In the same way, the saumoneau which, small, resembles a fario extremely, is transformed visually into “white fish” at the time of its Dévalaison. That is called the Smoltification. The same applies at the time of the Dévalaison of certain trouts, which in fact, become sea trouts, with an aspect similar to that of salmons: same causes, same effects!

In Canada, the term sea trout is employed for a subspecies of Salvelinus fontinalis . Elsewhere, the term returns either to the Truite fario, or with the Rainbow trout.
