Sea elephant

The sea elephant is most imposing representing of the family of the Phoque S (Phocidae). It owes its name with the shape of horn which the nose in the males dominants.

There exist 2 species of sea elephants:
- the sea elephant of the south ( Mirounga leonina ) which attends the subantarctic southern seas (Patagonie, Falkland Islands, Kerguelen, Îles Crozet, Île Heard) and
- the sea elephant of north ( Mirounga angustirostris ) present on the North-American peaceful coast (Alaska, California, Low-California).
