Scuffle on bridge Al-Aïmah
The Bousculade on bridge Al-Aaimmah took place the August 31st 2005 during which more than 965 people found death and at least 810 others were wounded.
Bridge Al-Aaimmah spans the Tigre with Baghdad, the Iraqi capital. It was located on the way of the Pèlerinage in memory of the Shiite Imam Mûsâ Al-Kâzim borrowed by a million people. Two hours approximately before, out of the shootings of mortar downtown full had killed seven people near the goal of the pilgrimage.
A rumor was spread in crowd, informing that kamikazes provided with belts of explosive were present in crowd: a scuffle followed, and of the hundreds of people perished trampled, or drowned in the river located 30 meters under the bridge.
Ibrahim Al-Jaafari issued a three days mourning.
Some time before, between three and six mortar fires had touched crowd, causing 16 dead. An American helicopter Apache had counteracted on the site of origin of the shootings.
