The scrotum , or the purses , is a bag of skin of the Mammifère S males located between the Pénis and the Anus and intended to protect the Testicule S.
At the human being, until the ninth week of pregnancy, the Fœtus male or female presents yet only two generic labio-scrotaux tubers which will give in the little girl the Grandes lips of the Vulve and the scrotum in the little boy. The fusion of the two tubers is already completed in the neighborhoods of the eleventh week; the joining which results from it names the Raphé scrotum. It is only about the seventh or eighth month that the testicles will go down in the purses.
The principal function of the scrotum is to maintain the testicles at a temperature slightly lower than that of the body (34,4 °C) in order to support the production of Spermatozoïde S (spermatogénèse). The thermal regulation is carried out thanks to the movement reflex of the muscle cremaster which, by contracting the scrotum, brings closer the testicles to the body when the weather is cold and conversely when the weather is hotter, supporting by perspiration the maintenance of a lower temperature.
The Peau of the scrotum is particularly permeable with many molecules. It could play a part in the hormonal system. The English surgeon Percivall Pott (1714-1788) had already noticed that the children who were formerly (for their small size) employees to clean the chimneys were much more numerous to develop a Cancer of the scrotum with the adulthood, towards the 20 years age, which was one of the first indices of environmental causes for certain cancers.
