Scraping-knife
A scraping-knife is a short Knife with simple or double edge.
It could be used:
- like Knife;
- like a short sword: the Spanish schools of Escrime used it left hand to avoid, thus keeping the sword held in the right hand available for the attack; there are then several types. In artistic Fencing, it can be used defensively like offensively.
Types of scraping-knives of combat:
- Scraping-knife with round slices (example)
- Scraping-knife with couillettes
- Scramasax
Certain scraping-knives were used only for the Estoc:
- Scraping-knife of jet
- Stylet: a Dagger with blade triangular very fine, designed to produce wounds very deep and thus difficult to cure, appeared in Europe at the 13th century and called tucks in English.
- Pass-mesh
The scraping-knife was sometimes placed in the boot of certain knights to protect itself if ever it had suddenly fallen from its horse.
