Scramasax
A scramasax is a franque Knife . It acts a large knife semi-length with a long edge on with dimensions of the blade, the other with dimensions being sharpened only at its end (the third last of the blade approximately).
The scramasax, whose name would mean " knife which entaille" or " knife of Saxons" , made between 30cm and 1m; starting from 60cm it was called " langseax" or " longsax" and was intended for a military use. Its origin is difficult to encircle, because its existence is attested France in Russia.
This long knife was used by all the people of Germanic origin, and if one regularly sees it on the reconstitutions of costumes Vikings or Norman, its hour of glory rather was mérovingienne. Like all the knives of this time, its qualities of forging mill are exceptional. The majority have an edge reported out of hard steel, or a structure in " sandwich".
At the same time pointed and cutting, arms and tool, it was a little the knife with to do everything time. Preserved in a simple leather sleeve in which the handle returns to half (the weapon not having guard), generally horizontally carried in the back on the level of the size.
