The Scottish Parlement ( Scottish Parliament in English) constitutes the legislative body of the Scotland, it sits in the capital Edinburgh. The first Parlement of Scotland amalgamated in 1707 with the Parliament of England within the Parliament of Great Britain. The current Parliament was established by the Scotland Act of 1998, and met for the first time the May 12th 1999.
Current Scottish Parlement was created to manage competences which are reserved for him by the British Parlement of Westminster. It can adopt laws and, to a certain extent, vary the taxes. Among the 129 deputies, 73 are elected in uninominal districts by the vote with a turn, the 56 others are it with proportional in eight various electoral areas. The Parliament elects a Prime Minister who directs the Exécutif Scot. The Parliament elects also the members of the Executive, on a proposal from the Prime Minister. Current the Prime Minister is Alex Salmond Parti national Scot (SNP).
Since September 2004, the Parliament sits in a new building in the district of Holyrood with Edinburgh. This building was designed by the Catalan Architecte Enric Miralles. It was inaugurated by the queen Elisabeth II the October 9th 2004.
