The scottish is a dance of ball in couple, of binary measure (2/4), without relationship with the Scotland. It is introduced in Great Britain in 1848 under the name of German Polka and appears in the Parisian living rooms two years later under the name of shottish . When the First World War bursts, it is famous scottish because of the strong feelings anti-German.

It is carried out in couples rotating clockwise, while the procession of couples, laid out freely in the room, evolves/moves in the contrary direction. The dance is complete in four measurements:

  • my. 1: a No hammer of the left foot for the man (of the right foot for the woman)
  • my. 2: a No hammer of the right foot for the man (of the left foot for the woman)
  • my. 3-4: four not hopped S while turning

As much of other dances of living room, the scottish entered the repertory of the traditional dances at the 19th century, in particular in the Breton Danse. It is also used in certain figures of the squares.

In the repertory folk, she knows many variations, especially on the 4 time of turned: Pastourelle (S), various figures,… There exist also alternatives with two couples.
