Scott Dixon is a racing driver New Zealand born the July 22nd 1980 with Brisbane (Australia). It evolves/moves since 2003 in the championship IndyCar Series, which it gained this same year.

Biography

Born in Australia, but high in New Zealand (the country it carries the colors in competition), Dixon begins karting at the 10 years age. At the 13 years age, thanks to an exemption, it carries out its beginnings in automobile sport in a test of tourism, then, the following year, it gains the championship of New Zealand de Formule Super Vee. In 1996, it continues its methodical rise while being essential in the national championship of Ford Formula. In 1997, Dixon turns over to Australia to dispute the championship of Holden Formula there. Third and better beginning for its first season, it takes down the title in 1998.

In 1999, Dixon leaves to the United States where it joined the rows of the championship Indy Lights, then the anteroom of CART, within the stable Johansson Motorsport, directed by the old driver of Formula 1 Stefan Johansson, which will become its manager. After promising a first season, it passes in 2000 in the team CAP West, with whom it takes down the title easily.

This title logically enables him to reach in 2001 the championship CART, a discipline in which the CAP West Racing is also engaged, and where it replaces the veteran Mark Blundell. In a team however little accustomed to successes for several years, Dixon has quickly made speak the powder: it dominates its tested team-member Mauricio Gugelmin and takes a lead in the small oval of Nazareth at the beginning of season. At 20 years, he becomes thus the youngest winner of the history of the CART, beating the record established a few seasons earlier by Greg Moore (this record was beaten in 2006 by the French Nelson Philippe). Dixon confirms this success by showing throughout the season a remaequable regularity which allows him finishes the championship in 8th position and better beginning from the year. Dixon remains at CAP West in 2002, but the team, in prey with great financial problems, closes her doors quickly. The New Zealander does not remain a long time without wheel since the Chip Ganassi Racing hastens to recruit it and engages a third car to allow him to continue his season.

In 2003, the Chip Ganassi Racing and Scott Dixon leave the CART to join the rival championship IRL. It is not long in taking there its marks since it is essential as of the sleeve of opening, disputed in Homestead-Miami. In spite of an accident in which it breaks the wrist at the time of the following sleeve, Dixon shows a remarkable control throughout the season, takes down two new victories, and gains the title at the time of final with suspense over the oval of Texas.

Disturbed by a large accident and a wound with ankle at the beginning of the season 2004, like by the weakness of its block Toyota, Dixon is not able to defend its title, and carries out one completely anonymous season, drowned in the group. It makes nevertheless speak about him in spring while being invited twice by the stable Williams - BMW to meeting of private tests (in Barcelona then in Castellet) for a possible accession with the Formule 1 in 2005. Dixon will make only one impression mitigated with the various observers present. A report obviously shared by Williams, who will not take action pursuant.

Always at Ganassi Racing in 2005, Dixon continues to suffer from the weakness of its Toyota engine. Its performances also in light withdrawal compared to its fellow-members are with the source of rumors of dismissal, but he manages to save his place by gaining with class the sleeve of Watkins Glen (a road layout, where the power engine is thus less primordale that on oval) at the end of the season. Thanks to a team finally of return to the foreground (Ganassi using an Honda engine like the whole of its competitors), Dixon confirms its return to the foreground in 2006, with a permanent presence in the first places of the group, and two victories, of which a news with Watkins Glen, acquired on wet track. Its season 2007 is still better since after a solid beginning of the season, it is irresistible in second half of season, with four victories including three acquired consecutively. With the neck and neck with Dario Franchitti with the championship, it seems to have the title out of pocket at the time of the last test of the year but must be inclined with a few tens of meters of the flag with checkerworks because of a breakdown of gasoline.
