Scorniceşti
Scorniceşti is a commune of Romania, in the Judeţ de Olt cash 12 802 inhabitants. The city is made up of thirteen villages and extends on an total surface area from 170 km ², which is the largest surface of all the Judeţ de Olt, exceeding even the chief place Slatina.
Scorniceşti is the birthplace of the communist leader Nicolae Ceauşescu, which lived there until the 11 years age, before leaving for Bucharest and becoming shoe-maker. During its dictatorship, Ceauşescu wanted to make of Scorniceşti a “model city” to place the “Socialist Man there”. Also, in 1988, it began its plans while making destroy the traditional houses of the village by replacing them by residential buildings. It changed also the statute of the place of village at city. At all events, the bulldozers saved the native house of the leader who became a local attraction.
Ceauşescu in addition made build a great stage (of a capacity of 30 000 places) for the local football team, the FC Olt Scorniceşti, which was with the assistance of Ceauşescu promoted until in the first division. Nowadays the successor of the club plays in the third Rumanian division.
Dinel Staicu, a Rumanian millionaire, announced that it built a museum relating to Ceauşescu with Scorniceşti.
