Score of Apgar

The score of Apgar is a score used to evaluate the health of a Nouveau-né with the Naissance. It lies between 0 (cardiac arrest) and 10 (normal). He was invented by Virginia Apgar in 1952.

He breaks up into five tests to which one allots from 0 to 2 points: heart rate, breathing, tonicity, reflexes and coloring.

The test is carried out one minute then five minutes after the birth. A score lower than 7 is abnormal and requires gestures of reanimation, a score lower than 3 is synonymous with apparent death.

The word Apgar was transformed thereafter into Acronyme mnemotechic: Appearance (coloring), Pulse (heart rate), Grimace (reflex with irritation), Activity (muscular tone) and Breathing.
