Sclérite
see also: Etymology of Sclérite
The sclérites are the chitin plates forming the Exosquelette Arthropodes. These parts are called:
- tergites on the back of the animal,
- pleurites on the side of the animal,
- sternites on the ventral part of the animal.
At the Insects, one will say notum rather than tergite , pleuron rather than pleurites and sternum rather than sternites .
These plates are articulated between them. One calls joining the articulation between two sclérites.
