Scipione Forteguerri , known as Carteromaco (Italianized Greek transl. of its name), is a philologist Italian, born with Pistoia the February 4th 1466, died with Florence the October 16th 1515.
Biography
Scipione Forteguerri was the pupil of Politien and enjoys the favor of several cardinals. It made print at Alde Manuce several of the most estimated editions Princeps Greek authors:
- Oronon of Aristote;
- the Geography of Ptolémée;
- Onomasticon of Julius Pollux;
- Aristophane ;
- Gregoire de Nazianze;
- the Anthology , etc
It composed with the praise of the Greek language a famous speech, Of laudibus literarum graecarum , 1504, reprinted by Henri Estienne at the head of sound Thésaurus lings grœeca .
