Scientist (musician)

Scientist is a sound engineer and producing jamaïcain born in 1963, active in the field of the Dub.

Biography

Born in West Indies under the name of Overton Brown in 1963, Jamaica, the Scientist young person begins his career as sound engineer to the Studio One in the current of the year 1978 after having worked for his father who had engaged it because of his technical capabilities to repair radios and TV in any kind.

Gradually it becomes protected from King Tubby, which admits in him a style out common after him to have allowed it, after work, to use the table “to have fun”… It is towards the Années 1980 that Henry “Junjo” Lawes, one of the best producers of Reggae music of the time, saw his productions leaving to the English label Greensleeves. Lawes proposed to produce a young person and talented Chanteur, Barrington Levy, with the famous Studio One of King Tubby and to make some versions dub remixées by Scientist.

King Tubby, to trust of this first test, realizes musical potential which one can draw from the collaboration of two djs as famous as were to it Prince Jammy and its Scientist rival. It thus decided to produce for Greensleeves: Scientist versus Prince Jammy: The Big Showdown , on which the Roots Radics accompanied both DJs.

After this release, Scientist rather frequently produced albums, Greensleeves always following the wave. It is in 1982 that it joined the Chanel One Studio where it in particular learns how to record Live. Unfortunately, about the middle of the years 1980 few producers took the risk to continue to invest in Dub Music with the profit of the young people Toaster who came clasher the Dancehall jamaïcains. It is towards the end of the year 1980 qu' it left for New York in order to finish its career as a producer. He resides today at San Francisco and always produces; he turns sometimes with Mad Professor or Zion Train or Iration Steepas (England).
